Country Music Word Search, free printable PDF preview

On 28 November 1925 a Nashville radio station put a 77 year old FIDDLE player named Uncle Jimmy Thompson on the air for a barn dance program. Two years later the show was renamed the Grand Ole Opry, and it has been broadcast every week since. This word find gathers the sound that grew around it, from the PEDALSTEEL guitar to the HONKYTONK bar. The music genres grid on the site covers country as one style among many; this one zooms in.

Frequently asked questions

What is a PEDALSTEEL?

The pedal steel guitar, played flat on legs with a metal bar in one hand and foot pedals that bend the pitch. That sliding cry is the sound most people mean by country.

Is BLUEGRASS the same as country?

It grew from the same roots but is played on acoustic strings, usually BANJO, FIDDLE and MANDOLIN, with fast picking and tight harmony. The name comes from Bill Monroe's band, the Blue Grass Boys, named for Kentucky, the Bluegrass State.
