What a word scramble is good for

A word scramble takes a familiar word, jumbles its letters, and asks the solver to put them back in order. It is one of the quickest puzzles to build a lesson or a party around: a spelling list becomes Monday's warm-up, a set of holiday words becomes a table game, and a vocabulary unit becomes review that does not feel like review.

Unlike a crossword, a scramble needs no grid and no interlocking, so any list works as-is. Add a short clue to each word and even a hard jumble stays solvable, which is what keeps younger solvers from giving up.
