SEPTEMBER means seventh, from the Latin septem, yet it is the ninth month. The oldest Roman calendar began in MARCH, so the months up to DECEMBER kept numbered names that stopped fitting once January and February moved to the front of the year. This word find hides every month long enough for the grid, which makes it a quick way to practise spelling the tricky ones like FEBRUARY.

Why is May missing?
The puzzle only uses words of four letters or more, because short words tend to turn up by accident in the filler letters. May is the one month too short, so eleven of the twelve are hidden.
Is there a puzzle with days of the week too?
Yes, the site has a separate days and months grid that mixes weekday names with a few months. This one covers the months only, in easy mode, with words running across and down.
