Earthquakes Word Search, free printable PDF preview

An earthquake begins deep underground at a point called the hypocenter, where rock suddenly ruptures. The spot on the surface directly above is the epicenter, and seismic waves spread out from there. A seismograph records the shaking, and the magnitude of the quake is often described using the Richter scale. Smaller tremors called aftershocks can follow for weeks, and soft wet ground may lose strength in a process named liquefaction. This word puzzle gathers eleven terms.

Frequently asked questions

What is the epicenter in this earthquakes word search?

The EPICENTER is the point on the surface directly above the HYPOCENTER, where the rock actually broke underground.

What is liquefaction?

LIQUEFACTION happens when shaking makes wet, loose soil behave like a liquid, so buildings above it can sink or tilt.
