Cinderella Word Search, free printable PDF preview

The glass SLIPPER is French: it appears in Charles Perrault's 1697 telling, along with the PUMPKIN coach and the fairy GODMOTHER. In the Grimm brothers' version there is no godmother at all; a hazel tree on her mother's grave gives the girl her GOWN. This cinderella word puzzle follows the Perrault story most readers know, from the HEARTH where she sleeps to the stroke of MIDNIGHT.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the magic end at MIDNIGHT?

Perrault set the deadline so the story has a clock. The CARRIAGE turns back into a PUMPKIN, the GOWN into rags, and only the SLIPPER survives to identify her.

Is Cinderella a real name?

It is a nickname. In French she is Cendrillon and in German Aschenputtel, both meaning the girl who sleeps in the cinders by the HEARTH. The name became a common word for anyone who rises from a hard start.
