Christmas Eve Word Search, free printable PDF preview

Silent Night was sung for the first time on Christmas Eve 1818, in the church of St. Nicholas in Oberndorf, Austria, with a guitar instead of the organ. This word find is about the night itself rather than the day: the candlelight service, the 1914 trench truce, cookies and carrots left out, and the long wait in pajamas. Words run across, down, backwards and up. For wreaths, tinsel and the sleigh, see the main Christmas word search.

Frequently asked questions

Why does NORAD track Santa?

It began in 1955 at the Continental Air Defense Command, NORAD's predecessor, when a newspaper ad printed a wrong phone number and children calling Santa reached the duty officer. NORAD took over the Christmas Eve tracker in 1958 and still runs it.

What was the Christmas truce?

On Christmas Eve 1914, along stretches of the Western Front, British and German soldiers stopped firing, sang carols across the lines and in some places met in no man's land. The TRUCE was unofficial and never repeated on that scale.

Why leave cookies and carrots out?

The COOKIES are for Santa and the CARROTS for his reindeer. In the UK and Australia the snack for Santa is often a mince pie instead.
