RUST is a chemical reaction in slow motion: iron, oxygen and water combine into a flaky iron oxide that takes up more space than the metal it replaces. This grid covers how reactions are described in class, from each REACTANT and PRODUCT in an EQUATION to OXIDATION, COMBUSTION and a solid PRECIPITATE. Words run in all eight directions, diagonals included. Atoms, bonds and protons are in the chemistry word search.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between exothermic and endothermic?
An EXOTHERMIC reaction gives off heat, like burning wood. An ENDOTHERMIC reaction takes heat in, which is why baking soda and vinegar feel slightly cooler as they fizz.
What does a catalyst do?
A CATALYST speeds up a reaction without being used up. Enzymes in your body are catalysts, and so is the metal inside a car's catalytic converter. Students can review it in this word puzzle before a quiz.
