This grid travels the country from BRASILIA to the AMAZON rainforest, the PANTANAL wetlands and COPACABANA beach, with SAMBA, CARNIVAL and a bowl of FEIJOADA along the way. Words run across, down, backwards and up.
Frequently asked questions
Why do people in Brazil speak Portuguese?
The Portuguese explorer Pedro Alvares Cabral landed on the coast in 1500, and Brazil stayed a Portuguese colony until independence in 1822. It is the only country in the Americas with PORTUGUESE as its official language, and the largest Portuguese-speaking country in the world.
What is capoeira?
An Afro-Brazilian art that mixes martial arts, dance and music, developed by enslaved Africans and their descendants in Brazil. Players move inside a circle called the roda to the sound of the berimbau, a one-string instrument. For the rest of the continent, try the South American countries word puzzle.
Why is Iguacu spelled without the cedilla?
The falls are Iguaçu in Portuguese and Iguazú in Spanish, on the Argentine side of the border. Word search grids use the 26 plain letters, so the name appears here as IGUACU.
