Anatomy Word Search, free printable PDF preview

Every anatomy textbook describes the body as if it were standing upright, facing you, palms turned forward. That fixed pose is called the anatomical position, and it is why the thumb counts as LATERAL to the little finger even when your hands are in your pockets. This grid is built from the direction words that make the system work, from ANTERIOR and POSTERIOR to the three planes that slice the body: SAGITTAL, CORONAL and TRANSVERSE. The site already has grids for organs, bones and body systems, so this one stays with the language of position.

Frequently asked questions

What do proximal and distal mean?

Both describe distance from the point where a limb joins the trunk. The elbow is PROXIMAL to the wrist, and the fingers are DISTAL to the elbow.

Is this anatomy word search hard?

Yes. It is set to hard, so words run in all eight directions, including diagonals and backwards, and the longest, TRANSVERSE, has ten letters. It makes a good word find warm up before a biology or nursing quiz.
